Several people have told me that the Bearded Lady, Annie Jones from my book Who put the B in the Ballyhoo? looks like me. I like those people. She is obviously quite a vixen.
Other people have said I look like my unflattering portrayal of Anne Boleyn from The Raucous Royals. I don't like those people as much.
And when my husband first saw the image of Babe Ruth, (The Fat Lady), he said that she looked just like me. I didn't speak to him for days.
Or maybe all artists paint themselves in portraits? And I found this GREAT site (The artscholar.org) to proove it.
Below is Titian's portrayal of Pope Paul III. They could be twins.
Did Van Eyck marry his sister? I doubt it.
And this is why art scholars who say the Mona Lisa is a self-portrait are just not getting it.
There is also a section on the site that has different portraits of Napoleon. Every artist made Napoleon look just a little like the artist. What do you think?

I actually think your Annie Jones looks a lot like Frieda Kahlo . . . or maybe it's just the eyebrows.
I'm gonna try not to totally nerd out here and babble on and on. But this was a common subject that would come up in art school. I believe the amazing artist Julie Heffernan was the one whom I first heard say that every work of art we create is a self-portrait and that it is nearly impossible to not incorporate our self into other images.
Amy - That's funny that you say that because my work area has Frida Kahlo's art everywhere. She is one of my favorites.
Heather - I have heard art teachers in school say it a million times too but I never really believed them. Now I am convinced.
Lately all the people I draw are a bit on the plump side too...I better lose that baby weight before I start channeling Fernando Botero.
Oh dear. I draw dogs and demons...
