Royals in Miniature

These sculptures by G. S. Stuart have so much character. He seems to capture a touch of wry humor behind each royal. Here are some of my favorite ones:

Anne Boleyn
Just wait until I get my hands on that Jane Seymour

Catherine de Medici
Those kids of mine are exhausting.

Duchess of Kendal
Has someone seen my breakfast?

Caroline of Brunswick
This dress will surely raise my husband's blood pressure

Nell Gwynne
"Pray, good people, be civil — I am the Protestant whore."

Yes, I am sure they don't need my captions, but I couldn't resist. There are plenty more over at this minisite dedicated to George Stuart and you can learn more about the Historical Figures Foundation here.

Let me know which ones are your favorite.

Oh my god, I adore these! I have to head on over to the web-site. My favorites are definitely Anne Boleyn and Nell Gwynn

I love Nell Gwynn! And I think the wailing infant beside Caroline of Brunswick is a nice touch! It's funny how both of them have their mouths wide open :-O

I interviewed Mr. Stuart about a year ago. He's a very interesting guy. He kept referring to people as if he was actually there -- "Oh yes, so-and-so, I remember him well..." or "Mary Stuart, I don't remember her, she was a bit before my time..." It was hard to tell if he was joking or not. But he seems to have a deep bond with these historical characters. And definitely has his opinions about them as well, LOL!

And up close and in person, his figures are just as amazing.

I have so many favorites in history! I really can't choose! I think Mary Stuart looks so beautiful, and Queen Elizabeth is very regal looking.

These are great! I think Nell Gwyn is hilarious. And Catherine deMedici looks just so tired of everything. Thanks for sharing these, I got a great laugh.

I know I should say Anne Boleyn since she's the person who started my royal obsession, but the utterly weary and almost defeated look on Catherine de Medici's face made me laugh out loud, especially coupled with your caption.
(And I can't stop staring at Nell Gwynn. It's like "they're" following me around the room like a scary portrait's eyes.)

haha Nell's endowments do tend to follow you. Catherine de Medici is my favorite. I am kind of looking like that lately. Need sleep.

Katie- I can't believe you got to interview Mr. Stuart. I hope to someday see his sculptures in person.
