The Raucous Royals bids farewell

Today will be the last post on The Raucous Royals. Over two years ago, I began this blog as an offset of The Raucous Royals book to share all the interesting tidbits that never made their way into the book. Readers have tolerated my endless bad analogies, my blatant overuse of the word "raucous", my terrible spelling, and occasional rants. The past few years, I have met some incredible people through this blog. But there are so many other history blogs that do a much better job than I do digging up raucous history. I am looking forward to having more free time to enjoy reading those sites.

I will continue to make posts on my art blog and my twitter account will stay live too. The newsletter will become a quarterly newsletter.

Thank you and farewell fellow history geeks, and if you know a child who thinks history is boring...well, they obviously have not met a Raucous Royal.

  3. Honestly, your blog is one of the best I've come across in this field. I feel quite sad that you're not writing on it anymore but I guess I'll have to find another one.

  5. Carlyn - I'm so sorry to see you go. You've done a fabulous job, truly. We at Number One London - onelondonone.blogspot.com - are going to miss you, but we'll carry on and keep the Georgian, Regency and Victorian spirit alive. We shall also endeavor to be raucous from time to time . . .

  6. thank you all for your kind words. I am really sad to let this blog go but I just have to. I have a 3 and 1 year old who need their mom giving them lots of attention and book proposals that are not getting done. And I can't tell you the last time my husband got dinner. :) SOMETHING had to go.

Maybe when I get a handle on things....RR will stage a comeback like the 5th(?) Rocky or the Karate kid remake. (ok maybe those are bad examples)

  7. Ooh Carlyn, we are going to miss you! Who is going to watch The Borgias and tell us what the producers got wrong? Or to tell us all those raucous little tidbits of history that we don't know? Hopefully we'll see you again in the not too distant future!

  8. A sad day indeed! While I completely understand why you'd want to take a break, as a fan of your work I'm sorry, sorry, sorry. Enjoy your children, continue making fantastic art and books, and let's hope this is just a short hiatus rather than a permanent farewell. Good luck with everything, Carlyn - and know you'll be greatly missed here in the blogosphere!

  9. So sorry to see this blog go but I will be sure to tune into your art blog and look forward to many more things from your creative talent!! I have so enjoyed your sense of humor and irony when writing about history - so refreshing and a lively change from the dull, plodding stuff we are spoon fed in school. Thanks for all the great posts!

  17. Thanks everyone for the kind words. I really do hope to revive this blog once I can get a handle on things, but I can't make any promises right now. That one year old has me running in circles. He is a handful!

  18. Oh no! I've also been a lurker for 2 years and ALWAYS read everything from my little room here in the Netherlands.

I absolutely love your humour and stories. So sad to see this blog go but I totally understand.

  20. This is so sad. I just clicked over and found your farewell. FWIW, I totally hear you on the "something has to give" when it comes to kids, a career and finding time to do things like grab a shower or sleep (especially with a two year old). Here's hoping that the Raucous Royals will be resurrected once life permits. In the meantime, a big crown of gratitude to you!
